Work Not School
August 13, 2017
This is not a vacation . At the same time it is. Anytime one leaves the comfort zone it creates thought. The last week at work–I never say I’m going to school–it was hard. I didn’t expect to have to schedule the school. It was Grade Pro all over again. I scrambled and enjoyed it. My laptop connects to the school network but my desktop and printer credentials are still trapped in zombieland. I have tremendous experience with tech things that don’t work on day one.
It got me thinking. I retired just in time. It was bringing me down and stagnating my abilities. I loved the part of my career that gave me the opportunity to solve problems. Several times I actually fixed things that no one wanted to do or didn’t want to put in the time. It was never anything showy but I enjoyed the work. With those projects gone my my skill set suffered.
Last week I got it back. It felt good. Work is supposed to be rewarding.
