Plastic Containers
I don’t know why I decided to write about plastic containers this time but once the decision was made I needed an angle. My inspiration for this blog came from the soft, woozy melody of Landslide by Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.
Some musing on how I started this piece:
- Plastic containers are necessary and environmentally responsible.
- These containers both multiply and suddenly disappear.
- If I bring a container to a friend’s house with something delightful to share it is guaranteed that the container is returning to my house, usually full.
- No one has a kitchen large enough to store both container and lid as a unit.
- As the geese in the park mate for life so do these containers.
- It’s almost impossible to reliably match lid to base on the first try.
So this is what I developed.
The Odious Plastic Container I put it up and I take it down. I rearrange and I turn around. While I forgot the leftovers on the table It’s a landslide that brings me down. I don’t know. But the lid in my hands is a precise mate. It won’t fit, won’t seal, it won’t burp Oh no please no Oh, cabinet in the kitchen, WTF Can the square in my hand find its lid? Does this rectangle base have an oval face? Or do the base edges corner off Why do leftovers need to be saved? Why do I open the cabinet To have the pieces spill on my face? Still some lids miss a mate I put it up and I take it down. I rearrange and I turn around. Why do I play this endless game For a landslide to bring me down. I put it up and I take it down. Close the door and I turn around. It’s been the story of my life Then this landslide brings me down.
And for the musical background of my inspiration:
cool! Lets sing it out!!
