When you work for a Catholic school that starts in August the Feast of the Assumption is a first day off!

So I’m sitting in the Dunkin Donuts soaking in the local color.  This Dunkin Donuts not only has a drive through window but it also has a tunnel.  It may be the largest Dunkin I’ve ever been in.   It has a flat screen TV too.

There are a group of medical students (everyone is in scrubs) at the large table.  The chatter indicates an important test is imminent.  One woman, Eve is obviously in charge. I’m naming her Eve because she is SO white.  She reminds me of the song from Sweeney Todd describing the myriad of shades of blonde.  Eve is very blonde, blonde and her skin tone makes me look ethnic.  While my family is ethnic no amount of rice and beans is going to change me.

There was a dispute about  particular problem Eve leaped up from her seat, planted both palms on the table got right in the face of the challenger.

Well, that changed the direction of this post.  I strained my ears to listen in what topic would elicit such and emotional response?  Anatomy and Physiology?  Microbiology? Where to go to dinner?

Eve had more of southern drawl than most of people I’ve met.  She barely opened her mouth as she spoke, even during her rant.  Her teeth were tiny, perfectly shaped, perfectly straight and uber white.

Natalie’s schooling has taught me about the soft southern bell lilt and old money Memphis versus new money Memphis.  Eve doesn’t fit any of these definitions.

There was a guttural quality to her voice.  It seemed to be intentional and not the pitbull anger of the moment.  A controlled affect announcing that she was the smartest person in the room and she would be willing to punch your lights out to prove it.

So many questions, I wish I knew when they were gathering here again.
