The Pool at the Inn

The pool at nearby inn. We can use it. It was the first time since arriving here that I felt cool. We had a great game of Marco Polo with Lisa Kron. It’s a very different game when play by adults.

Classroom in the mountain

The classroom: mountain was dug out to create it.  It is also one of the few places with reliable internet.

LaMama Umbria

August 19, 2019 For the next ten days I’ll be living in a 12 century dwelling slightly updated.  There are twenty of us spread spread over the property.  Itself makes me wish that I did watch Game of Thrones.  It’s all stone and its many rooms have a layout that would make Joanna and Chip …

Just Stuff on Rome

August 18, 2019 On the train to Spoleto, I’m catching up on this blog.  Traveling alone is doable, still not preferred. I don’t think there is anything I could have done to better prepare. Thanks to Brittney I had fantastic tours set up. I never over sleep but I had to hustle out both days.  …

Trevi Fountain

August 17, 2019 I took myself to the Trevi Fountain.  There’s lots of things I didn’t get to do but the Trevi Fountain was on my must list. I set out to take the bus. The Termini was a block from the Hotel Palladium Palace. I couldn’t find the bus I was looking for so …

They had elevators with a system of pulleys operated by slaves.  It could house an audience …

Although the name survives the only …

St. Peter’s Basilica

August 16, 2019 For all the times I’ve seen St. Peter’s on TV, was so different in person.  The Pieta, Michelangelo’s first work is the first thing you see.  It is the only work he signed. It is an amazing piece for the emotion it elicits and the techniques used. Mary’s power and endurance evidenced …

Vatican

Friday, August 16 Less pictures today because of Vatican restrictions.  So happy to be on a tour.  Yesterday I felt like I was guessing at what I was looking at.  Besides, it’s more fun to get the stories and and the gossip part of the history. There are 30,000 visitors to the Vatican a day, …

When in Rome

August 15, 2019 Arrived in Rome at 7:30 am Rome time.  Slept on the plane a bit.  I was annoyed with myself because I blew the mass transit option and had to take an airport taxi.  I had breakfast while I waited for my room to be ready.  This is the double i was convince …
